In our technology-rich day we have included many new and improved technologies that can be used to advance the quality of education for all students. The technologies were carefully selected to provide the best possible learning outcome for the goals and objectives in each of our eighth grade lessons. It is important as educators to not only incorporate technology into the classroom, but also to assess the usefulness of the technology when teaching students important benchmarks and objectives. Students will be able to not only learn about new technologies, but they will also be able to improve their skills when using technologies they may already be familiar with. We hope that by incorporating these technologies into our lessons, students will become more engaged in their learning and take a more active approach in their education. Within the lessons you have seen many 21st century skills that students must learn and understand in order to achieve the goals of the lessons and complete their projects. These 21st century skills are addressed through interactive websites, interactive computer software, cameras, PowerPoint, iPod Touch, Skype and many other technologies for the 21st century.
The article “Students Speak out on the Benefits of Technology” states that findings have shown that when technology is incorporated into the classroom properly, students have more success, superior skills and problem solving opportunities, more complete student assessment, increased student motivation, and an increase in family involvement. By including these technologies into our lessons we are able to better actively engage students in the learning process. It is our hope that by providing students with these great opportunities to use these technologies they will come away with a better understanding of the lesson objectives and benchmarks, as well as, improved technology skills.
In this day and age, it is important for students to keep up with the advancements in technology that are being developed every day. By providing lessons and incorporating these technologies, our students will be better prepared for the world of tomorrow. By becoming more familiar with 21st century skills, students increase their chances of becoming successful in life. As educators, it is our job to expose students to what technologies are out there and help them to make educational decisions about how they may incorporate these skills in their future goals and careers. We have created this technology-rich day to allow students the opportunity to interact and use different types of technology in the hope that they will come away with a better understanding of themselves as learners and how they may see themselves in the future.
